Marieke Blankestijn, born in the Hague, the Netherlands, was founder member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and concertmaster there for 35 years.
During that time she had a close musical relationship with Nikolaus Harnoncourt,Claudio Abbado, Paavo Berglund ,Bernhard Haitink and Yannick Nezet Seguin.
Since 2012 she is concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
She has a family in the UK,and lives on a farm in Dorset.
But these days she is very happy to be part-time back in Netherlands to her musical roots as well as living in the city of Rotterdam.
