Kwamé Ryan

Conductor

Born in Canada and raised in Trinidad, Kwamé Ryan studied musicology at the University of Cambridge. He was general music director of the Freiburg Opera (1999-2003) and musical director of the National Orchestra of Bordeaux Aquitaine (2007-2013). As a guest conductor, he has worked with orchestras such as the Radio Orchestras of Stuttgart and Bavaria, and the Opéra de la Bastille. In 2021, he conducted the world premiere of The Time of Our Singing at La Monnaie, Brussels. Ryan was recently appointed music director of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra beginning in 2024/25.
