Andrés Orozco-Estrada

Conductor

Originally trained as a violinist, he decided to study conducting at the age of 15 and was taught by Uroš Lajovic in Vienna. After his 2004 debut with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, he became principal conductor there and also worked as principal with the Basque National Orchestra. Orozco-Estrada gained international recognition after his forays with the Vienna Philharmonic and has since conducted orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.

From 2014 to 2021, he was chief conductor of the hr-sinfonieorchester in Frankfurt and from 2014 to 2022 of the Houston Symphony. Recently he has been focusing more on opera productions, such as La Traviata at the Staatsoper Berlin. In 2025, he will become music director of the Gürzenich-Orchester and the Oper Köln. At the Concertgebouw Orchestra, he made his debut in 2015, conducting the fourth edition of Concertgebouw Orchestra Young in 2023 and Beethoven’s Fidelio at De Nationale Opera in 2024.
